愁懷 – 朱淑真

 

鸥鹭鸳鸯作一池，

须知羽翼不相宜。

东君不与花为主，

何似休生连理枝。

 

Melancholy Heart by Zhu Shu-zhen

 

Egrets, love-ducks, and gulls, one pool they share,

But each its plume-wings no resemblance bear.

Why should Flora grant tangling stems and sprigs?  

If She forbids both blooms and trees to pair...
