A Quatrain by Yuan Hao-wen (Jin Dynasty)
“The tender peonies hold tears of spring rain,
The dawn-lit roses, drooping wearily, remain.”
A line plucked out of Han Yu’s “Mountain Rock” —
It dawns on all ‘tis in a maiden’s strain.
