Gazing Towards Spring by Du Fu
Our realm in ruins, though stay peaks and meres
In overgrown weeds, spring capital lay.
Such tumult e’en brings down flowers’ tears,
And such grief stirs birds’ hearts on fleeing way.
The war raged for months, I think on my dears —
For letters worth more than gold I pray.
I oft pull my hair, in woes and fears,
No need hairpin, for ‘tis so thin, so grey.
