梅雪争春未肯降，

骚人阁笔费评章。

梅须逊雪三分白，

雪却输梅一段香。

(Snow and Prunus Mumes)

 

As snow and mume contend to champion spring,

The poet laid his brush, muse in full swing —

“Although snow outshines mume in purest white,

Mume outdoes snow in scent that snow couldn’t bring”
