梅雪争春未肯降，

骚人阁笔费评章。

梅须逊雪三分白，

雪却输梅一段香。

(Snow and Prunus Mumes)

 

Both snow and mumes contend to herald spring,

Yet poets find it hard to crown the king.

Though snow outshines the mumes in purest white,

The mumes beat snow in fragrance on the wing.
