An Epitaph on Wild Pigeon Mound by Wang Guoji
A symbol of loyalty, sith Han dynasty, so great,
A mound on wild sand - a rarely found relic estate.
Over two millennia, unceasingly extolling it high,
At dawn, it greets pilgrims, at dusk, it bids goodbye.
Old verses oft recited, new chapters ever unfold,
His virtue of pure jade, his voice of bell gold.
Would the wild geese bear a letter southward apace?
His ceremonial mace, its tassels worn sans a trace.
His tearful gaze homeward; who’d offer him a kerchief?
Snow-haired, who yet could revel in such grief?
Repatriated, ennobled, a figure of historic scale,
His nineteen years, like rivers, at last returned to the dale.
