Evening Overlooking from Western Tower of Xiangyang City
by Xu Hun (Tang Dynasty)
Upon the tower, my myriad miles of woes grow,
As I behold reeds and willows like isles below.
Creekside, clouds rise as the sun sets yon the temple,
Afore a storm, the tower’s filled with wind’s fierce blow.
In the weed-crept Qin Garden, dusk birds take shelter,
In the leaf-laden Han Hall, cicadas cry woe.
O, wayfarer, mayst thou ask not of the bygones,
The River Wei still flows east from the homeland, though.
