浪淘沙九首（其八）- 劉禹錫

 

莫道谗言如浪深，莫言迁客似沙沉。

千淘万漉虽辛苦，吹尽狂沙始到金。

 

A Quatrain by Liu Yu-xi

 

Say not, as tidal waves, all slanders surge to scold,

Nor deem the gilt banished like sand in river cold.  

Not till through myriad washes, sifts, and trials,

Away the wild sand is blown, and forth shines the gold.
