Drinking on Qingming by Gao Zhu (Soong Dynasty)

On slopes to the south, on knolls to the north, tombs row on row,
Tomb-sweeping families, back and forth, come and go.
Paper cash’s ashes flutter like white butterflies,
As blood-streaked tears fall, the blood-red azaleas blow.
Yet, as soon as the sun sets, tombs become foxes’ beds,
Mourners home at night, they laugh by the lamps aglow.
Fie, life doth fleet, when ye drink, drink deep till drunk,
Have ye e’er seen a drop of wine reach down below?
