On the Second Day of the Second Lunar Month
by Li Shangyin (Tang Dynasty)
On the second of the second month, I sail,
In the east breeze, I hear flute strains softly hail.
Flower fluffs flit while willow wisps whirl, so wayward,
Bees dight golden coat, butterflies don purple veil.
Though far away, I long for a retreat like Tao’s,
In the Ya Fu Camp, I spent three years, clad in mail.
Ah, how could the fresh rapids, untamed, read my mind?
They only grumble like winds slap eaves while rains wail.
