A Verse by Li Qingzhao
(Breaking the Gossamer in the Stream)
Though I feel better, my hair hath turnt thin and grey,
I lie watching, through the panes, the waning moon’s ray.
Though cardamom boils into tea, I am too frail
To take wonted tea’s way.
Abed, against the cushions, I read at mine ease,
Outside sights – kaleidoscopic, in rain and breeze.
O, Osmanthus fragrans befriend me - only me
They’d stay all day to please.
