A Verse by Cui Hao
(The Yellow Crane Tower)
An immortal of yore soared with a yellow crane
And left this empty Yellow Crane Tower behind.
Sith then, the yellow crane hath not been seen again,
Here for ages only clouds afloat unconfined.
Afore eyne the Hanyang trees don the sunny plain,
The verdant greens have the Parrot Isle lushly twined.
Oh where’s my home? Sunset evokes my homesick pain,
The hazy river stirs the dolor in my mind.
V2
A fabled immortal soared with a yellow crane
And left this empty Yellow Crane Tower behind.
Sith then, the yellow crane hath not been seen again,
Here for ages only clouds afloat unconfined.
Afore eyne the Hanyang trees dight the sunny plain,
The verdant greens have the Parrot Isle lushly twined.
Where lies my home? Sunset summons my homesick pain,
The hazy river stirs the dolor in my mind.
V3.
A fabled sage of yore soared with a yellow crane
And left this empty Yellow Crane Tower behind.
Sith then, the yellow crane hath not been seen again,
Here, for aeon, only clouds afloat, unconfined.
The viridescent trees adorn the sunlit plain,
The verdant leas have the whole Parrot Isle entwined.
Where lies my home? Sunset summons my homesick pain,
The haze waves drifting on the river stir my mind.
