吊白居易 - （唐） 李忱

 

綴玉聯珠六十年，誰教冥路作詩仙。

浮雲不繫名居易，造化無為字樂天。

童子解吟長恨曲，胡兒能唱琵琶篇。

文章已滿行人耳，一度思卿一愴然。

 

A Dirge on Bai Juyi by Li Chen (Tang dynasty)

 

You have exquisitely crafted for sixty years,

Now Hades has crowned you a poetry-sage with cheers.

Called Ju Yi, it means you would drift like floating clouds.

Le Tian, your Style name, it means let it be sans fears.

Your Song of Everlasting Woe, e’en kids can chant,

Your Pipa Verse, Tatars sing, your works fill all ears.

You’re highly extolled; whenever I think of you,

I’d heavily sigh with a flow of poignant tears.
