A Verse by an Anonymous Beggar
(Death Song)
Oh, my whole life like the seagulls’, no one would know,
Again, with my bamboo cane, I trudge to Nanzhou.
The dusk beholds the gloomy moonlight fill my bowl,
The dawn lists my clappers clap as fall wind doth blow.
I kick the dusty world over with my two feet,
For I have carried enough present and past woe.
From now on, never will I have to beg for food,
So, no yellow dogs would bark at me, to and fro.
