我要写卡车司机，不是因为我每天工作都与卡车司机们打交道。我要写的这位卡车司机，我从未曾谋面。
卡车司机的工作在美国，不算什么好工作。危险，各地到处跑，难有规律的家庭生活。大多有其他选择的人都不太愿意当卡车司机。大概过半的卡车司机是第一代移民，那些在美国还未完全立稳脚跟的第一代移民，如，俄罗斯人，中国人，印度人，中东人等等。他们口音很重的英语或是很烂的英语会告诉你，他们是第一代移民，甚至是新移民。
我要写的这卡车司机是土生土长的美国白人，也是我工作的植物检疫站长的弟弟，其实是站长的后妈带过来的儿子，与站长没有血缘关系。他留给站长最深的记忆是，一个十一二岁的小男孩。那年站长还在读大学，夏天回到他爸爸家并在附近打工，第一次见到了这个后妈带过来的小男孩。好像在站长的印象里，他这个弟弟就永远停留在那十一二岁的小男孩的层面上。因为，那夏天之后，站长大学毕业了，工作了完全独立了，见到这弟弟的机会不多。
那卡车司机有高血压的病历，因为常跑车，吃药就不太正常。他在三周前，死于心脏病发作。那天，他到内华达州的有小赌城之称的雷诺市。他不是个赌徒，到赌场去小玩小赌一把，只是一些美国人的习惯而已。那天他玩老虎机赢了一万美金。在和友人排队到自助餐厅吃晚饭时，觉得排队等侯的时间太长，就又去玩了老虎机。就那一小段时间，一台机让他赢了一千美金，另一台机让他赢了三百美金。等他坐在餐桌前时，他的口袋里有一万一千三百美金的现钞。他心情很爽地吃了一顿大餐。然后到赌场宾馆的房间，美美地洗个澡，准备上床睡觉，宣告一天的结束。才走到床边时，心脏病就发作，倒下了。在未接触到地面之前，就死了，享年47岁。
他死前的一天是他快乐的一天。有不少人认为，那天他太兴奋了，他的心脏受不了，就死了。我可不这么认为，死于心脏病的人多着咧，可不是每个人都赢大钱吃了大餐才死的。我更相信是那一天是一个快乐的人的最后的一天快乐。
他给一家有很多直升飞机的公司工作。他的工作是开着带有一个大油罐的卡车在地面上追着在天上飞的直升飞机。直升飞机没有燃油了，就降下来找他加油。他们公司的直升机飞到哪里，他就开卡车到哪里。
卡车司机没有子女，他的追思会就在他父母居住的城市西雅图市举行。站长开车十五个小时一路接上他的两个姐姐去参加他的追思会。
卡车司机生前工作的公司从老远的地方派来了七个人参加他的追思会，从公司的所有者到另外的卡车司机。公司的所有者和副总裁也在追思会上回忆分享讲话。公司专门制作了影像片来追忆他。录像片里放有一些直升飞机从天上拍摄下来的那司机在不同的路况开大油罐卡车的影片镜头，也放有他给直升飞机加油的影片镜头。在影片中可以看到，那司机的操作专业而娴熟，动作沉稳而有序，表情自信而自然。好像，那司机生来就是做那些事的料。
是的，那司机天生是做卡车司的料。在他还是十一二岁时，站长的爸爸，要他写下自己长大要做的三件事。那十一二岁的小男孩，写下，第一是当卡车司机；第二是当卡车司机；第三还是当卡车司机。站长知道了，就对他说，你不要当卡车司机，你要去上大学，选择更好的职业。那男孩说，我要当卡车司机。后来，他真的成了卡车司机。他开大油罐卡车二十余年，各种路况都遇到过，没有出过什么事，也没有过违规而得罚单的事。卡车司机生前工作的公司很伤心，因为他们失去了一名很好的员工，一名出生就是为了做那份工作的员工。在卡车司机过世后不久，公司就制作了一块金属牌，刻着 “纪念Jerry Johnson” 并镶在卡车司机生前开的大油罐卡车上。Jerry Johnson是卡车司机的名字。那是一部只服役了四个月的全新的大卡车，也是卡车司机的职业生涯中第一次开全新的大卡车。在他的人生最后的四个月里，因着这部全新的大卡车，他的心情特别爽。
追思会上，大家对卡车司机的分享回忆把站长带到悲伤之中。站长第一次告诉我他的死讯时，站长不算悲伤。等到站长从他的追思会回来时，再提到他时，眼含泪花。站长在转述追思会上大家对卡车司机的分享回忆时，眼泪快掉出来了。
我的心也被卡车司机的故事打动了。打动我的心的是，那卡车司机如此忠实地执行自己的命运，如此安心地接受自己的命运，如此快乐地享受自己的命运。他那当卡车司机的命运，在这个有很多机会的国度里，不算是什么好的命运。
有宗教说，人的命运是前世注定的或是说上天安排的。但，我相信人的命运中，有先天预定的部分，有后天的被拣选部分，也有自己自由选择的部分。人在运用自己的“自由意志，自己选择” 的权利时，大多都受到世俗的功名利禄价值观的影响，在环境许可时，大都追随世俗的价值观。这就是为什么对人来说，要不受世俗影响地追随自己的内心很难。在充满世俗的这个世界里，很多人就从来没有机会发现自己命运中的先天预定的部分。
这卡车司机不一样，他从小就从内心发现自己命运中的先天预定的部分，并且，排除世俗的影响坚持这个命运。在成就这个命运中，他享受了生命，享受了生活！这是他打动我的心灵地方，打动很多人的心灵地方。
