Seven Rolls [1]

Ernst Jandl [2]

Translated by xia23

Between the tea of morning

And the evening dishwashing

He eats seven rolls –

One for the morning tea

One for the mid-morning snack

Two for lunch

With knife and fork

Crumbled in coffee for snack

And the last two

For dinner

Before dishwashing.

In between

Between meals

He glues silver stars

On the wall of the kid’s room.

Sometimes he has to step on the table

Sometimes that is not high enough, then he puts

A chair on the table.

When he has finished

then climbing down

He steps back down

And looks at his works from afar.
