在我眼中摯友從不衰老，

記得初見時，君多俊美，

日日無損耗。三冬寒潮

入疏林，搖落夏日芳菲，

三度春色，化作秋葉落，

人隨四時更替，看慣了

四月紅三度燒成六月火，

唯有君依舊，嫩如綠苗。

美呀旋轉不已，如鐘錶

時針潛行，分秒悄悄溜，

令我覺得君如當初姣好，

實則靜中動，騙我眼眸：

懾於此，後來人請聽取：

前代絕美，哀哉已死去。

第9、10行有多層次的隱喻，dial-hand 直譯是“日晷或鐘面之手”，指時針，his （its） figure 指鐘面數字。伊莉薩白代的鐘大都只有時針，沒有分針和秒針，所以看起來好像沒有什么在移動。
