Lesson #3: In court, if you have a lawyer, let him speak for you. Do not speak for yourself.

On that fateful day, my sister told me she wanted to play with the sterotypes of American people. Do you know that Americans like to see Asian females dressed in red? Yes, RED. She wore a red top. She also pulled her hair into a conservative style. She wore heels. She looked very much like a pretty sterotype Asian female that Americans like to see on that day. Other people turned their heads at her  in court, as though, you look so good, why are you here (I imagined). The judge also paid attention to her. After all, my sister can be charming when she wants to.

Now, my sister had listened to bad advice before that court day. Worst of all, she had followed upon the bad advice. My advice to you: LISTEN TO YOUR LAWYER! Before she consulted the lawyer, she had filed an internal investigation report against the officer with the police department. BAD BAD move! The officer would not want to drop the case at all! This is why you have to listen to your lawyer and be careful.

Fortunately, my sister likes to listen to Pope. One day Pope was on TV and had preached this message: Do to others as you would others do unto you. My sister thought about it. She thought how much trouble this police officer had brought on her. How she had become so depressed. She decided not to do the same to the officer. She wrote an email to the internal investigator officer at the police department and withdrew her complaint and investigation before her court date. This turned out to be a critical move.

Since the officer was unwilling to drop the charge, what helped was my sister's email to withdraw the investigation. The email was retrieved over the phone and was shown to the police officer, who then was willing to drop his charge.

So at the court, the lawyer did not want my sister to open her big mouth and say something stupid. In fact, both the judge and the lawyer, and the prosecutor and the officer think that my sister was incompetent in the language and in the cultural understanding. My sister played along by first of all, dressing in red, and second of all, by speaking poor English. So the lawyer read on my sister's behald, the email and my sister apologize on tape that she was sorry. She was then ready to open her big mouth and say something stupid. The lawyer hurried to bring her off the stand and thanked the judge. The black judge looked at my sister, and was quite sorry that he did not get to hear the story because he was curious too.

This was my sister's birthday. It was a gift from God to have her load removed. Thank you Jesus.
