Fun fact (well maybe just fun to me): Cow and pig were Anglo Saxon words for the animals. When the Norman invasion of England occurred, the French words "boef" and "porc" were used to refer to the meat of the animals. Those became Anglicized to "beef" and "pork"

Yeah. Poor people kept calling them as they always did, the court and the King only saw the animals already dead and cooked and used their French words.

Exactly! It’s was the upper class and aristocracy who called the animals by their meat.

Fun fact; Dollar comes from the german word thaler (thal means valley where the silver was mined for making the coins). I’m from Hungary and we also have a similar word for a specific type of coin which btw we don’t use anymore, tallér
