穿山甲的舌和舌骨

The tongues of pangolins are extremely long and – like those of the giant anteater and the tube-lipped nectar bat – the root of the tongue is not attached to the hyoid bone, but is in the thorax between the sternum and the trachea.

Die Zunge ist nicht wie bei anderen Säugetieren mit dem Zungenbein, sondern über ein äußeres Muskelsystem, das teilweise der Zungenbeinmuskulatur homolog entspricht, mit dem hinteren Teil des Brustbeins verbunden. Das Zungenbein besitzt bei den Schuppentieren eine andere Funktion: Mit ihm werden die an der Zunge klebenden Insekten am Eingang der Speiseröhre abgeschabt.
