Larry, Mika and I know each other because of all our sons go to the same elementary school, and are good friends too. Larry was my son’s basketball coach for the previous season. He is a nice person, but I am not so fond of his coaching style. For him, winning a game seems more important than having fun and participation. In order to win a game he would make the best players play much more then others, which is against the rule. Especially for his only child, his son, he would let him play the whole game while kept switching other player around, until two parents protested. There were a few other things he did I don’t really like very much either. Because we are friend I never said anything to him directly. After that season both my husband and I have decided that if our son ever wants to play basketball again Larry is not going to be the coach. Anyway, I told Mika all this while we went walking a month or so ago.
I got a call from Larry today. Larry is going to coach again for this season, but my son is not going to play. What he told me today summed up as this: Mika’s son was going to play basketball, after found out that her son was on Larry’s team, she went ballistic. She told the director who in charge of signing up that she would never ever let Larry coach her son and a list of things that she didn’t like about Larry’s coaching style. Larry then asked me “How did she know this since she never went to any of my games and practices?” I felt like being caught stealing red handed. He definitely sounded that he suspected me the culprit.
Later, I told my husband about it, he suggested me to offer a explanation to Larry. I don’t know what to do, one thing for sure I will feel so awkward when I see him next time, I will have to keep my mouth really shut.
