Today I created a riddle, Here goes: Last night, a faithful friend visited NYC again, and he left a “gift” at the door steps for each resident as a gratitude toward our hospitality before departing this morning. What is the gift ?

Alright, here is the answer. The old man winter brought nyc some SNOW again. By this point, most of New Yorkers' patiences on winder weather have been stretched really thin , not mention that snow has become interchangeable nouns, in locals' vocabularies, as nuisance, depression or inconvenience. Some even think it as one of the vulgar four letter cursing words. But, as always there are some exceptions; I, for example, actually like the fresh snow to fall on the city again.

I enjoy watching snowfall because, for a time, it doesn't matter if people are rich or poor, black or white living in uptown or downtown, in the old man's eyes every one is equal. In particular, I deeply appreciate this splendorous creation from the cold weather and wow its potent power to transform the surroundings. In just few hours of time, dirty streets were blanked and the trees in the parks were draped magically in a sea of pure white. When the gleaming metal-and-glass towers of Manhattan rised directly out of a field of snow, all of sudden , everything was muted, soft and clean as if all of our pollutions were all washed off by the gentleness of falling crystals.

This morning, driving her to the airport, I put the snow in a different perspective while the wet and soft snowflakes kept kissing the windshield of my car softly. I was thinking that if every now and then the old man winter comes and white out the land we live and to give us a fresh start, then why shouldn't we to do the same, purging our greeds, lusts hatred, prejudice and all other taints outs from our minds and get ourself purified once a while.

Speaking of purification, It is interesting though that we have invented all kinds of cleaning agents to get our living spaces, clothes, cars, dishes clean, but there seem no specified products available to cleanse our minds. Well maybe there are some alternatives. In a winter night, a song, a page of poetry, or a glass of red would cleanse mind and restore pristine back to where it belongs.

This afternoon, she sent me a video clip of DIDO when she landed in London with msg “I am missing you.” Now I somehow know behinds all of the glamors, life for her is not that glamorous. After London, she will have to be in Paris and then in Milan. Then again, whose life is perfect ?

The photos come from Internet.

纵然平行 回复 悄悄话 "yes, there is one! The answer will be posted in my backyard according to someone, in the next Chinese New Year." We'll see about that. Please don't forget the revelation is contingent on that if your garden/blog would, by then, be still open for visitors. At this juncture, the endurance sentiment seems, unfortunately, negative. :(

In terms of mind cleansing, I think, the cleaning agents might be right under our nose. For instance, a piece of soothing music, an enchanting book, a verse of grasping poetry, a touching movie, a heart-throbbing painting/photo, a thoughtful piece of writing in someone's blog all may set our heart free from the bandage of daily mundaneness for a moment so.

Although the "gift" is gone, the affect will last for a while in my mind. :)
