Investing.com--Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) said on Wednesday evening that its Robotaxi mobile app was now open to public users, indicating that the company could expand its services beyond select areas in Austin, Texas.
Robotaxi app now available to all, the company said in a post on X. Users can download the app to join a waitlist, with Tesla stating that it was expanding access soon.
The app is currently only available for iPhone users, with Tesla stating that Android support was coming in the future.
Tesla had in June begun public testing of its robotaxi in Austin, Texas, although the service was only available to investors, analysts, and social media influencers. The company was also seen using Model Ys equipped with self-driving technology, as opposed to the Robotaxi model it had unveiled in 2024.
The company also launched ride-hailing services in the San Francisco Bay Area in late-July, although with a human in the drivers seat, given that it is not authorised to offer robotaxi services in California.
Teslas announcement on Wednesday could herald an expansion in its Austin robotaxi services. CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly touted self-driving and robotaxis as one of the next big growth drivers for Tesla, especially as the company grapples with a protracted decline in sales.
