I have a hard rule that each year I take August off. No trading, or looking at markets with the same intensity. It's really difficult ?but I have to do it. Otherwise I'll be exhausted when the real money flows back in September. Then it will be full on until Christmas week.?
Here are my top 3 things I struggle with and how I found a way top solve them.
1. I fear I will miss out on opportunities when I am away from the desk. This is a one way ticket to the mad house. I should know because when I traded Futures in The Greek Crisis I never left my desk. One week I left for 20 seconds to get a coffee and Draghi said "I'll do whatever it takes." Well you can imagine how bad I felt.?
Solution: I have to remember much bigger and brighter traders have taken time out to rest. Follow their example. If I rest today I will come back even stronger tomorrow. As Adam Gazzoli my friend and co-founder once told me. "markets will always give you another chance"?
2. I get scared the markets might change so much I will forget everything. Maybe lots of clever people will take over and I will be useless. My levels, my tradable macro, the Central Bank position, the way VOL spikes, The Tsy curve, blah blah blah.?
Solution: This is nonsense and much like riding a bike your brain has muscle memory. A tip I use is when I get back on the for the first day is I just observe. No pressure to trade. I call my mentor to get a market recap (only the reaction function side) and then it generally takes me 3 days to get match fit.?
3. Markets are my life. I can not find another hobby when i am away.?
Solution: If like me you are hard wired to always ask "what is the trade" then this is tricky. My advice is practice doing something that has NOTHING to do with markets. play classic music, take up snorkelling, maybe even try scrabble. Accept that you may not like these things (at first) BUT that is not the point. You are training your brain to gear down. This in itself will make you more productive later.?
对普通投资者也一样:不要总想抓住市场的每一个机会,relax and get recharge.?Markets will always give you another chance
