(Poetry Series) The Desolate World I: The Vanishing Silhouette
By Li Li
You walked away without a single attachment,
Leaving me with a silhouette fading into the distance.
No farewell, and I do not know where you are headed,
But my gaze, at last, no longer has to wander awkwardly before you,
And rests calmly upon your retreating back.
The landscape of your back is simple and abstract,
Yet the pasture of the soul is painfully real.
Longing, like a lamb playing joyfully in the grass,
This scene is folded repeatedly by the sunlight,
And along with the days when we bathed in peach blossom rain,
The wind carries it to hold onto your distant place.
At dusk, resting on the image of your back, I understand,
Gazing at the setting sun with the moon in view, why does my heart bleed with sorrow?

This poem explores the feelings of abandonment, longing, and the quiet yet profound emotional shift when someone leaves. The imagery of the back and the distant silhouette speaks to the irreversible nature of separation and the emotional weight of memories.
