If anything the TV Series "Masters of the Air" has so far taught the audience, it is never sending a chief Chef of State Dinners to be in charge of a fast-food restaurant, and a TV series is clearly not the right dish for Steven Spielberg. The old tricks that he often easily pulls out of his sleeves to serve as the lubricant for an ever-developing story in a movie of 120 minutes long, do not have the luxury of the time to do the same magic in an episode of a TV series about 50 minutes short. The results of his unique professional skills applied in a TV series, more like a delicate appetizer for a dressed-up banquet yet presented to the stunned driver expecting a pre-made hamburger and some french-fries at the drive-through window of a fast-food restaurant, are astonishingly misplaced and by no means properly appreciated.
The stories in each of the three episodes of Masters of the Air, not fresh at all, are awfully similar, you see one and you see all. A blessing or a plague for the playwright can be debatable, it definitely poses a great challenge for Steven Spielberg who strives hard to tell a different story in each episode yet seems to have failed miserably. The actors of those pilots,  in the same uniform with their performances as poor as the story is dull, offer no help to Spielberg's endeavors but have certainly been successful in crashing the audience's curiosity of telling who is who in the story. In the end, the very reason for their failure of persuading the audience to pull for them in their mission might have almost ended up letting the audience understand why they are sent up in the sky to get shot at. The unconvincing performance in general falls way short of living up to the title of the TV series, the "Masters of the Air", when it fails to command the audience's patience in its frist three episodes.
Steven Spielberg is a Master of the movie director and Tom Hanks a Master of the actor, yet the combination of two Masters cannot let their bombers take off this time around.
