Dear Dr. Xiu:
Thank you very much for arranging my second visit to the program. This is what I think.
During this visit, I had a glimpse of what the real life of a psychiatry resident is like — the ward rounds, consultations, emergency department patient management, and seminars. I know I can handle these very well when I become a resident myself. Above all, I liked what the residents were doing. As to research and other issues, I definitely have a lot to contribute with my background.
Recently, the 2 submitted manuscripts listed on my CV were all accepted. Apart from my regular research work, I am also doing clinical work on a weekly basis. One of these is in a psychiatry clinic, as shown in the recommendation letter I submitted during my first visit. Another one is in the xxxx clinic at xxxxx. After a short period of observation, I have already started seeing patients by myself, and then reporting to the attending. Still another one is in an xxxxx clinic at xxxx Hospital, where I first see the patients and then discuss my patients with the attending. These experiences helped me become familiar with the United States health care system. I also learned that different attending doctors have unique styles of working and teaching. I can learn different things from them.
At the moment I am preparing for USMLE Step 3. I am planning to take the exam before June. Thus, I will be able to have a stronger knowledge base and to concentrate more on clinical work when residency begins.
In conclusion, I like this program and believe it will provide the training I am looking for. I also believe I have what the program is looking for in a resident: clinical training background, research potential, personality that will fit into teamwork, and above all, love for psychiatry. I will definitely place your program at the very top of my ranking list.
I am looking forward to the training opportunity as a resident in your program.
Best Regards,
Riverside
