Nature never fails us

This spring, southern CA is abuzz with the talks of the wildflower super bloom. Enough has been posted and written in my blog, from the first hike of 2017 when the grass started shooting out of the ground, to March when the mountains were blanketed in green and vast stretch of orange poppies, peppered with yellow and purple wildflowers, and to April when poppies retreated and mustard flowers erupted into yellow color, carpeting the rolling hills with the unprecedented splendor.

Yet I seem never tired of writing this again about how as a perennial hiker, we are so fortunate to witness the beauty of nature as we gaze across the mountain, be it barren, lush or capped in snow, be it in summer or in spring. 

However superb the bloom season is, it will come to an end, just like any good time or thing in the world. Here spring passes in a blaze. Before long, the summer heat will hit us, and the mountains will return to its brown color. While we may lament over it, we know that if we had not had gone through the prolonged drought and scarcity, we would not have been so appreciative of the abundant burst. Not to mention that after the spring peak comes the blossom time of cactus flowers, whose beauty is just as amazing and unique. The nature never fails to display its wonder to people who have an eye and a heart to discover it.
 
Anybody in this world can fail you, but not the nature.

然后有一天，不，月黑风高之夜，抓荧火虫。。。爸爸用医用胶布帮我拔刺～～～
我家现在不种仙人掌，哈！那朵黄花儿，神秘惊艳呢。

The cactus is so resilient that it is very commonly seen here, with the fruits later in the season. I wish I knew how to eat them, as the tuna (Spanish Word for fruits) is used for type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. I may have watched Lion King many years ago with my daughter, but totally forgot there was such a scene :-)) Thanks for your visit.

It also reminds me of a hyena in the movie Lion King falling into prickly shrubs ...

暖冬cool夏 2017-04-20 12:06:46 回复 悄悄话 回复 'Once-always' 的评论 : mm来了，谢谢你的喜欢，要坚持写不容易，毕竟不是自己很喜欢做的事。我特意去查了，为什么叫prickly pear, 好像也没有找到确切答案，有可能是花(mm的感觉和想象力就是好)，也有可能是它后来结的果子像梨状。花确实很漂亮的，这些都是去年拍的(现在也已经开始开了)，还有不少照片，昨晚不想找了, 就贴了这三张。仙人掌花是墨西哥国花。谢谢喜欢！剩下的日子快乐！
Once-always 2017-04-20 10:45:47 回复 悄悄话 暖mm，中间那朵花是Prickly Pear的吗？让人惊艳！一开始还觉得奇怪为什么叫Prickly Pear看了这朵花明白了，真的就是pear的金色。好漂亮。
一直喜欢你的英文小记，暖mm常常从nature中悟出一些哲理，呵呵。东岸还是一天夏一天冬地交替着，估计快到五月花了。can't wait！
