Five English Poems

If You Feel Lonely
If you feel lonely
make a tree pose
imagine yourself a rainbow tree
in a beautiful forest
Raise your hands high
so the tree touches the sky
feel energy flow to your feet
fill in any emptiness you experience
Leaves chant in the wind
a thousand eyes wide open
taste raindrops from orchids
hear flowers blooming in the mist
The sun glides over dark shadow
shows the world a hundred miles grin
breathe the life around you
who will never be a lonely tree

The United States in the Eyes of Mr. Zhang
At the age of twenty five
he went to the Korean War
as a military medic
braving the hail of bullets
he saved countless comrades
injured by US air bombing
Thirty years later
his only daughter married
a US Air Force Major General
she gave birth to
two beautiful interracial boys
Another thirty years have gone by
he woke up from the emergency room
in an American hospital
the third time they have saved his life
although they knew
he had no medical insurance

Birth Cord
On the day I was born, mom
you took me to the rainbow bridge
unleashed me from the birth cord
watched me swimming away:
have a good earthy life, my little fish!
On the day I die, mom
I would meet you again
on the rainbow bridge, in Heaven
reconnected at the birth cord
I would be a happy fish, side by side
swimming with you, to eternity
Heaven or Earth
we are one, always

Magnolia
I will wait
while you draw circles and dots
behind me，with your magic pen
use up all the colors
till I, all of a sudden
turn around
blooming in front of you
The first
Magnolia blossom of spring
with thick morning dew

Come back to me when you are free
When your thoughts of me
float in sips of your morning coffee
you see my smile in rose petals
and the music you play
come back to me
When your hands are free to hug
your heart filled with joy, not guilt
when you can reach for all of me
in the morning breeze
come back to me
Even if I have to wait for years
when your hair turns grey，and
your wrinkles of missing me
written all over your face
I don’t mind, my love
I will be your coffee, your music
your rose petals，and
your love will feed mine
come back to me, my love
come back when you are free
About the Author:
Born in Beijing and graduated from China Foreign Affairs University, she pursued her further study in both economics (MS) and finance (PHD) in the U.S. She is currently a tenured full professor of finance at an American university. She loved literature in her youth and returned to writing in recent years. Since then, she has written over three hundred poems, both in Chinese and in English.
