Saturday my family was invited by a neighbor for dinner. Other guestsare a couple. The husband is a engineer professor from mainland, and the wife is a lawyer. The lady is tall and beautiful. She was very nice to my daughter.
Our chat touched a lot of interesting things, from the politics in the U.S. and China to the relationship between the two countries. After we turned the topic to people's appearance, such asdressing, she mentioned that as a lawyer, the body size of the lawyer plays a role sometimes based on her own experience. So she always wears high heels even she is 5'10". Her chair in her office (behind the desk) is designed so she looks a little bit taller than her clients. Since my daughter is short, I joked with her that my daughter could not be a lawyer. Then she came a story.
Her 2 sons, the younger one was 4 inches taller than her older one. One day they went to a doctor office together for a physical examination. During the measuring, the older brother certainly felt uneasy. Then the doctor walked in and noticed the situation. The doctor gave a comment, which her older son remembers until now and probably for his whole life, "all our body parts are important. However, the most important is the one above your shoulder". With the nice comment, her older son has been working hard and now very successful in his career.
Our asians are generally shorter than whites and africans. Not much we can do about it. However, we could win by our brain--education is the key!
