When I was only 5, we kids were counting years to see how old we would be when it was year 2000. At the time, we were imagining what it would be like when the 4 modernizations got realized. Now, it is the end of year 2004. We are typing on computers in another country to realize our own dreams for a better living.
When I was in elementary school, we kids were talking about to be scientists when we grew up. At the time, we even didn't know what "science" meant. We are all grown-ups now. Have we realized out dreams? I have not even met a truly greatest scientist.
When I was in middle school, we talked so much about getting to colleges. At the time, colleges were dreamlands from us. We imagined how much we could do there. Well, we have all graduated from colleges more then 10 years now. There were joys, there were sorrows, and there were good memories.
When I was in college, I thought I could do much more after I joined the workforce. I thought all I had learnt would be something that valued a great deal for people in need. I was disappointed when I found out that I didn't get to chose what I wanted to do and what I was good at doing. And I changed my career path later after I came to US, obviously just for to make a living.
All little girls have dreams that prince-charming would appear someday, and to cherish them as who they are. The fact is, little mermaid vanished like bubbles on the sea; Pocahontas died of TB. Does it really matter whether you have dreams?
If all the dreams have a soul, you will just go persuing the soul of your dreams.
Thinking about it, the word "dream" is interesting. It is a concept that gives people hope, and meaning of live. And, that is why life becomes boring when we have nothing more to go further.
What kind of dreams? There are dreams, and there are dreams not to be realized, and those are called dreams. Right?
