Selective Mutism Outside of School Activity: Easter Egg Hunt

 

• Who: Amy, talking buddy, other kids, parents
• Location: Community Park/Field
• Environment: It is the Clinton Annual Easter Egg hunt. Amy is very eager to find eggs with her talking buddy. Her talking buddy will make Amy feel more comfortable talking.
• Worry Level: 0
• Purpose: The puppy will distract Amy from her anxiety as she will be very excited to play with it.

Strategy and Scene:

• Keep Amy busy， Amy will enjoy the excitement of searching for eggs while exploring the park.
• Yes/no Question， “Amy, are you having fun? Yes or no?”
• Plan the conversation， Have Amy prepare some questions to ask the egg hunt coordinators the night before.

In the first few days of April, Amy’s excitement grew by the day. She knew that Easter was coming, and that meant Easter egg hunts, candy, and a lot of fun activities! Finally, it was Easter, and Amy planned to attend the annual Clinton Easter Egg Hunt in the local community park.

Amy attended the event with her talking buddy, Jada. Soon, everyone lined up at the starting line; the race was about to begin. “Ready, set, go!” The man yelled, and children sprinted to all different directions, desperately trying to collect as many plastic eggs as they could. Amy darted straight to the bushes, where she found large collections of colorful eggs. “Jada!” Amy yelled, motioning her to come to the bushes. “Look at all these eggs here!” Both of the girls started to eagerly pick up the eggs around the bushes until they were all gone. Minutes later, as Amy and Jada ran around the park scavenging for eggs, the majority of them were already taken. After the hunt, both girls looked at their pile of eggs and felt a great amount of satisfaction. Together, they collected a great deal of eggs with all sorts of candy hidden inside!
