\'They Are Supposed to Lie to You!\'

On our way home from school today, Evan asked: "Mom, how many days until it's Christmas?"

"Uh…about 40 days." I answered.

"I am the tallest boy in my class (there is a girl who is taller than him) and by Christmas I will be the only one who turns eight!" he told me.

"What? Where does the eight come from? You will turn seven right before Christmas but you will still be seven by Christmas." I corrected him.

"But you add one more year when it is Christmas." He explained.

"Why? Who said that?" I asked.

"You told me that when I was little." He said.

At this time Olivia jumped in: "When you are little? Evan, that's a lie. They are supposed to lie to you when you are little." She told her brother.

What??? Where does she get that from? I didn't know what to react for a second.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You lie to little kids to make them feel happy." Olivia explained.

Then she continued: "It's like everyone thinks they can be president when they were little 'cause my mom says so' (she imitated a baby voice with a funny facial expression). But the chances are more like one in a billion."   

Haha, I started laughing.

And I think I understand where Evan's confusion comes from. Since his birthday is very close to Christmas and it was hard for him to remember his birthday when he was little, I did tell him that whenever it is Christmas he will be one year older.
