Eileen is a Chinese girl in Evan's class. She has beautiful 忽闪忽闪的大眼睛 (blinking big eyes) and is one of the cuties little Chinese girls I have ever seen. Her face reminded me of those girls you see on a traditional Chinese lunar calendar (年历画). Her hair is always braided into two pigtails and most of the time they were put up in Chinese style.
According to the teacher, because Evan and Eileen have similar personalities, they play very well together and become best buddies (even though I wish him playing more with boys to break his quietness :)). I learned how special Eileen was to Evan when she was the only friend Evan said he missed from daycare when we were in
Recently, Evan kept on telling me that he would invite Eileen to our house for a visit and I told him that it would be okay if Eileen's parents said "yes".
Last Friday when I picked up Evan from the daycare, I saw Eileen's mom getting Eileen ready to leave. She saw me and asked whether I was Evan's mom. Then she told me that Eileen had been asking her to play at Evan's house many times. Eileen also told her that Evan was her best friend and she liked Evan better than her 10 year old brother at home.
"Wow, really?" I smiled at Eileen when I heard this. She nodded and leaned her face close to her mom's body shyly. She was just so cute! Then Evan heard us talking and came out. While I was getting him ready to leave, we learned that we lived not far away from each other so we would definitely set a play date one day for Evan and Eileen. The two kids were so excited to hear about this, they were laughing to each other. Evan even dragged Eileen over and gave her a hug and a pack on her cheek.
Eileen's mom and I walked out of the daycare together while the two of them chasing each other in front of us. Then we said bye-bye by our car. Evan gave Eileen another hug and a kiss, it was such a cute scene to see that I wish I had a camera to catch the moment.
The attached picture is not the greatest but it is the only picture I have with both of them taken on Evan's birthday. At the time, I intentionally asked them to stay close but unfortunately Evan was too busy eating his cup cake to care about the pictures and Eileen was a little nervous too. Oh, well, maybe another time.
