(Poetry Series) The Desolate World X: The Mountain Moon Approaches
By Lily
The mountain moon walks out from the sea of stars,
Lantern lights unfold the scenery of a lifetime.
The road away from the mountains is rugged,
While the path home is a lifelong longing.
I wait for you on this side of the hills,
Waiting for your clear radiance to pour down,
For the vanity of life to settle into stillness.
Yet, alas—memory runs aground in the moonlight.
Secrets of the heart turn willful,
Becoming bats of shadow,
Slashing the sky into fragments of dreams,
Slaying one pale night after another.
Your glow is reduced to a guilty backdrop,
A mirror for excuses made in retreat.
Time leans by the window, withering inch by inch.
The mountain moon, resting on the treetops,
Is gently wiped away by the dawn.
