(Poetry Series) The Desolate World VII: Sing Tonight
By Li Li
The night rises, sweeping over the sky,
Mountains, fields, and the land abandoned by the setting sun.
It rushes toward a heart’s half-open door,
Where loneliness and sorrow take root along the veins.
My hand gropes in the dark,
Seeking a lamp, a song to call forth.
Tonight, the stars and moon are lost in the night’s embrace,
The fields lie in silence, and I alone possess the boundless dark.
I light the withered lamp before my window,
Old friend, can you follow the light and come?
Shall we sing together, do you still remember,
That love song, which once captivated your soul?
It has long held my heart, and tonight we sing,
Let the night fade, and our hearts grow young once more.

Isn’t it fascinating how music and light can pierce through the darkest moments of loneliness? You ask for a song, and yet, the night and the silence often sing the loudest. I suppose, in some ways, it’s true—darkness can be a canvas for our brightest dreams
