I read two articles about unit election and hearing on Bucks County Herald, December 26, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.
A) NH Historical Society elects new president
The New Historical elected Bobbi Cross president at its 66 Annual Meeting Nov.21 at the Logan Inn.
Cross has had various professional and management positions in the legal industry, focusing on research systems and legal data management. These include the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Analysis Group, and the law firms Duane Morris, Schnader Harrison, Mintz Levin, and Cooley LLP. She and her husband were attracted to New Hope because of its history, diversity, and the natural beauty of the area.
She has been chairing the Historical Society’s Historic Preservation Committee for the past year and a half.
Cross accepted the nomination and noted, “ I want to thank Frank Policare for all he did as the previous president, I look forward to continuing his great work for the society, promoting New Hope’s history, and preserving the Parry Mansion.
Abrey Light ,1st Vice President, David Pearl, 2nd Vice President, Randy Cross, treasure, and Chris Wilcox, Secretary, were elected board of directors’ officers.
B) District court hearing on 34 W. State St. continued.
A hearing scheduled in district court to determine what’s next for a deteriorating building in the center of Doylestown Borough was continued shortly before it was set to begin later week.
It has been a challenging back-and-forth between Claudio Roman Jr. , the owner of 34 W. State Street, and local officials. Vacant since the pandemic, the downtown brick building had been an eyesore for some time when pieces of it fell onto the sidewalk in June.
First, metal fencing was put up to protect the public. The barrier blocked the sidewalk, sending pedestrians into the street, and blocking three parking spaces for several weeks. Later, scaffolding, which remains across the facade, was erected.
The borough began citing Roman earlier this year for two borough ordinance violations. He was pleased not guilty.
Should the matter still end up in court and Roman be found guilty, the penalty could be as much as $1,000 a day for each of the two violations. Depending on the judge’s ruling, the fine could be $21,000 for the sidewalk obstruction, which was resolved in September when the scaffolding was erected and pedestrians could again use the walkway.
C)
1) In the United States, in addition to the presidential and state legislative elections, some grassroots unit leaders are also elected. I saw a sign in front of some houses to choose someone to be a school principal. It turns out that the election of a public school principal requires the participation of students' parents. The heads of private enterprises are elected by boards of directors. Even the cadres of our residents council have to be elected every year, and they have to elect the chairman, vice chairman, the treasurer and the secretary. This is not available in China. In China, the Communist Party leads everything, and who becomes a cadre is decided by the Party.
2) I saw a notice for a hearing on the bulletin board of our residential building: “ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the borough of Perkasie, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, will conduct a public hearing on Monday, February 3, 2025. ......”. So there are so many hearings in the United States. That's right. As a decision-making body, we should listen to the opinions of the masses rather than make subjective decisions. But I haven't seen any hearings in China for so many years.
