（一）
天子重英豪，文章教尔曹(1)。
万般皆下品，惟有读书高。
（五）
朝为田舍郎(2)，暮登天子堂。
将相本无种(3)，男儿当自强。
（七）
莫道儒冠(4)误，诗书不负人。
达(5)而相天下(6)，穷(7)则善其身(8)。
（十九）
久旱逢甘雨，他乡遇故知(9)，
洞房花烛夜，金榜题名时。
1. 尔曹：你们。
2. 田舍郎：农夫、村夫。
3. 无种：不是天生的。
4. 儒冠：古代读书人戴的帽子。借指读书、学文化。
5. 达：事业发达、显赫。
6. 相天下：当宰相治理天下。
7. 穷：事业不发达、不顺利。
8. 善其身：使自己具有良好的品行和修养。
9. 故知：老朋友。

Emperors value outstanding figures,
And educate you with various writings.
The worth of all other pursuits is small,
Book reading excels all other careers.
