宗教与绘画-28：圣灵降临（Pentecost）

书接上文，在复活日后的第四十天，耶稣升天。十天之后，也就是复活日后的第五十天，圣灵降临。

「忽然，从天上有响声下来，好像一阵大风吹过，充满了他们所坐的屋子；又有舌头如火焰显现出来，分开落在他们各人头上。他们就都被圣灵充满，…」

这里有一个重要的概念。圣灵降临日，一般被认为是基督教会的正式开始。从这一天开始，耶稣的门徒们走遍各地，把福音传给世界。

The Icon of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles is one of the oldest known images of Pentecost from the Syriac Rabbula Gospel – 6th century, Church of Antioch.

这是来自 586 AD 完成的 Rabbula Gospels ，大概是最早的艺术作品之一。和后来的画作类似，我们可以看到常见的构成：中间上方的鸽子代表圣灵，有雨点/火焰/舌头，分撒在众门徒头上。

为什么是舌头呢？因为门徒们传道要出国，「他们就都被圣灵充满，按着圣灵所赐的口才说起别国的话来。」

我们可以看到圣母玛利亚（Mary, mother of Jesus）居中，旁边有十二个门徒。此时叛徒犹大已死，马提亚（Saint Matthias）填补空缺成为了第十二个门徒。
