Simply put, Florence sings very badly, and it wouldn't take a musical scholar to recognize that. But the fact that she sings badly is the chief reason for people to still remember her until today, as much as the foundation upon which Director Stephen Feares sets up two different worlds in the film, the illusional one wherein Florence faithfully believes otherwise and bravely howls through, and the real one her pianist Cosme McMoon tries to hold onto and eventually gives up, while in between, her husband and manager St. Clare Bayfield strives, as hard as he can and probably more than he should have, to bridge the gulf of the two, and to some great degree, successfully.
