I just read about 21-year-old Magaret MacNeil, a Chinese girl adopted by an
Ontario couple, winning medals at World Championships and going to represent
the Great White North in the coming Olympics. What an amazing story!
What crossed my mind was a passage from Psalm 118 (NIV):
22 The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
23 the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.
The verses stuck with me since I first read them 20 years ago. I had imagined myself
the stone, of course. (But isn't Maggie a fitter manifestation?) I had won a few battles
and lost a lot more. A voice had always told me that I needed more wins and I had
believed that the Lord, whoever in charge, or better yet, myself, would someday
uplift me in triumph for the world to see.
Vain as they were, my thoughts might not be unique. Garrison Keillor once said that
when he was young, he used to be afraid of a lot of things and what he feared the
most was to live an ordinary life. He did not detail what he meant by "ordinary," but
for me, fame and fortune were at the top of my wanted list.
Each day has borne witness to how blessed I am, however, to be shaken out of
that Matrix!
Good Luck, Maggie, and God Bless!
