The flu must have landed early during my vacation. Compared
with the previous one a couple of weeks ago, this time came
the real deal. But given the former experience, I was not
alarmed: it could be another quick one. Feeling worse toward
the end of the week, I stopped intense exercises on Sat and
only felt good enough to lift weight the next Thu. I did yoga
and breathing as usual.
Sleep was shallow Sun night and segmented every night the
rest of the week. The following Sat and Sun, I didn't sleep at
all as my body heated and ached fighting the invading virus.
Sleep returned normal Mon night and has been great ever
since, although it took four more days for the flu to go away.
I should have fasted but my will was weak. Had I stopped
eating early on, my body might have fought better. Historically,
Jul and Aug have been my summer sick months and this round
it took two weeks to pass.
These days, I treat flus as some sort of cleansing forced
upon by nature. About twice a year, my immune system would
weaken to a point so that a virus can have a chance. Getting
sick and getting over sickness might be a necessary process
for me. I know people who don't get sick year round. I am
not one of them and this is how I rationalize.
I am thankful the flu hit during my recovery from the toe
injury. My right big toe has improved to the point where,
with some pain, I could do seiza with the toes turned to the
floor. Soon I would be ready.
