My inspirations for juicing include
- Joe Cross (of the "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" fame),
- Helio Gracie (Grandmaster of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu),
- Jack LaLanne (Godfather of fitness on the American scene), and
- my dear old friend Dr. T.
Everyone led or has led by example. It would be stupid of
me not to at least give it a try.
I bought some veggies and fruits at Costco and weren't they cheap!
- $3.99 for 1 honeydew
- $1.39 for 8 bananas
- $4.99 for 10kg organic carrots
- $3.49 for 4 big bunches of celery (organic and 4x12oz juice yield)
Others, including apples, pomegranates, and beets, were from
a farmer's market and the prices were very reasonable too.
As for the juicer, I chose a masticating over centrifugal machine
for quietness and less oxidation.
Pear and apple juices were delicious and there seemed no
other side effects except for euphoria. Tim did it almost
every night. He loved to make extra for mom and dad. There
was little waste.
Carrot juice tasted great for a huge amount of pulp which
consisted of very fine flakes. The second time, eight of
them yielded 1/2 cup of juice. As the carrots were
well-chewed by the machine, I ate the pulp as a salad right
after with an avocado and some fish for supper. It tasted
great but didn't help my sleeping that night. OK. That's too
much raw carrots for one meal. Next time, I'll try to eat less
or cook the pulp before consuming. I did try to mix it with
ground beef to make burger patties. Tim was less excited
at the result.
I juiced two yellow beet roots. The drink tasted good first
but nauseating after a few gulps and my stomach felt it.
There might be other factors, but I felt weak for a while.
My friend M stands by its nutritional value. So the idea is
to have less, e.g., one beet root per week.
17oz celery juice was OK but became a little unappetizing at
the end. At the right time, 12oz should be perfect.
I loved pomegranate juice. Shelling the seeds was a little
work but worth it.
Honeydew melon juice by itself was not very sweet. Followed
a video by Rener Gacie, I blended 4 bananas in the juice and
the result was fantastic.
Again, I am THANKFUL.
The juicer was a big investment after a lot of consideration. Now I'm very happy.
I don't remember the last time I ate carrots but had 8 last week in one meal thanks to the juicer.
I got my family to drink at least real natural apple juice instead of the "100% Natural" versions coming in cans/bottles/packages. They already showed some interest in the veggie juices I made. Adding ginger or lemon is a great idea.
