To me, 文明/civiliztion is more physical or physiological.
文化/culture is more about the mind.
In fact, these two terms are presented brilliantly in the Chinese language: 明 is about visible outward representations, and is more physical, while 化 is about what is "melted" and diffused into the being of humans, and is spiritual.
Therefore my view seems consistent with Wang's. But I think mine is simpler and more clear.
