Fun Fact: Ukraine's genocide of 360,000 innocent Polish civilians was so brutal that even the Nazis and Germans were disgusted and horrified by the Urk's brutality. The Urks did things that not even the Soviets and Axis Powers had ever done. As a reward for this genocide and collaborating with the Nazis and helping them massacre over a million Jews, the Urks lost over 8 million people and were occupied by the Soviets after the war which is a lot less than what they actually deserved. And the fact Urk Nationalist veterans and Urk war criminals and genocidal monsters are still celebrated in Ukraine today is beyond horrifying and disgraceful in the eyes of the civilized world. The Urks did not learn from their history and they are DOOMED to repeat it.

Good lesson for those of you yelling "Slava Ukrini" today....you didn't know when it originated? Now you know...and if you think that it's being used in a different way by different people, you are as naive as the poor innocent villagers that thought Ukrainians were their friends and neighbors...and what's most sad about it all is that the descends of the Poles that suffered at the hands of Bandrovtsev, are the ones sending weapons, and sending Polish boys into Ukraine to figh under the Ukrainian flag dressed in Ukrainian uniforms, side by side with the descendants of the people that slaughtered their ancestors ...so next time you get the urge to yell "Slava Ukraini", maybe get familiar with history and the truth about what's really happening in Ukraine today...heart wrenching. P.S. This is coming from a first generation Ukrainian immigrant. My whole family is back in Ukraine. The only difference is that my great grandfathers fought, and died to rid the world of Nazi/Bandera scum.

Hatred (Wolyn) - The year is 1939 set right before the outbreak of World War II in a small village in Volhynia which is settled by Ukrainians, Poles and Jews. Zoysia Glowacka a young Polish girl falls in love with a young Ukrainian boy named Petro from the same village. Yet her parents marry her off to a much older Polish widower who is also the village administrator, Maciej Skiba. Once the war begins Maciej is recruited into the Polish Army to fight against the Germans. When the campaign is lost Maciej and other survivors journey home but are captured by the local Ukrainians, tortured and killed. In the meantime Zozia, alone and pregnant is forced to flee the overtaken village to save the life of herself and her children. 2016. 80 years and they never said sorry, they are there heroes, today’s the teach about them in schools . The president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is wearing their symbols. My mom survived the killing!!!!!!!

Incredibly intense movie, especially the last 30 min. More people should be aware, specifically Westerners on Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian relations. And how history has a tendency of repeating itself, just in different formats.

if anything, this movie downplayed the Ukrainian brutality.... the director did contortions to appear fair handed.....it was actually far far worse than portrayed....i don't think what really happened could be shown without people passing out.....a good portion of western Ukrainians turned into demented animals....why anyone is supporting them in the current war is beyond me since their direct heirs are part of the current Ukrainian government....I think what Ukraine is getting now from the Russians is poetic justice and with any luck this monstrous country will disappear from the face of the earth never to appear again

The oppressed become the oppressors, who then are oppressed by others. Every direction taken is tragic in this relentless and crushing film; one harrowing tale after another. But beautifully filmed and acted-a pinnacle of movie-making.

Very tragic story. Heartbreaking. This went on pretty much in the shadow of war between Germany and Soviet Russia. Now Poland is helping Ukrainian refugees from the current conflict in Ukraine. I hope this will never be repeated. Never again.

I was so sickened by this film,and for the Ukrainians not to acknowledge it’s happening or to please forgive the atrocities that took place by their own people,And Poland still opened their homes to them!I”ll never look the same at the Ukrainians or Zelensky!

Yes,that is all true,yet Poles help Ukrainians like nothing happened in the past. Hope more people worldwide will understand better what really had happened 80 years ago and has consequences till today.

I'm watching this right now trying to piece together this WW2 history with current events. I've never heard of Stepan Bandera before until this war when the Russians are calling Ukranians Banderites.

I love the singing in the beginning beautiful. I love the wedding. The village. The way life was so simple and rural. Never seen this movie but have heard about it.
