【简介】公元1565年夏季，穆斯林和基督徒在地中海中部的荒凉小岛马耳他进行了一场旷世大决战。扩张成性的穆斯林奥斯曼帝国根据其征服欧洲和整个世界的战略部署，派遣六万大军和数百艘战舰，围攻地属西班牙哈斯伯格王朝的马耳他岛。这个被军事专家一致认为无法防守的孤岛上有六千守军，包括由狂热的天主教信徒所组成的医护骑士团及其协防的欧洲雇佣军和当地居民。战斗从五月下旬打响，到九月初结束，过程极其惨烈。本文将叙述这一战役的起因、过程和后果。
