Tristan and Isolde [1]
Tristan is severely wounded on a journey in Ireland. Isolde takes care of the wounded Tristan with magic medical herbs. Tristan has to travel to the court of king Marke in Cornwall. There he finds out, Marke wants to marry Isolde; and Tristan himself is supposed to persuade Isolde to marry the king. On the trip to King Marke, Tristan and Isolde drink a cup of wine without knowing that it is a love potion. Tristan and Isolde love each other and meet secretly in King’s castle- although Isolde and King Marke are already married. King Marke is very mad at Tristan and Isolde and therefore he wants to put Tristan to death. As a symbol of love and loyalty Isolde gives a ring to Tristan. Tristan flees. When King Marke learns that Tristan and Isolde love each other through the magic drink, he forgives both of them. But Tristan dies of weakness and longing, Isolde dies of grief over Tristan’s death.
