Going to this restaurant makes you feel like descending into a underground wine-cellar. I guess that’s where the name of the restaurant came from!
The place is not one of those to-see-and-to-be-seen places in Santana Row. The décor is traditional, romantic, a little dark, with candles on the table. It’s a place you might want to take your wife or significant other for a special occasion. For us, it was the celebration of Tim getting a new job to help develop a cool virtual gaming community.
The entree portions are medium-sized, not overwhelming, but enough to feed a hungry stomach. The plates have eye appeal. The steak is fantastic, with the succulent original flavor of good quality meat grilled on charcoal mixed perfectly with the blue cheese. I knew we made a right choice for a steak place when Tim gave up his grilled mahi-mahi after two bites and started begging me to share my steak.
In the end, we almost ordered another one to go. That’s how good it was.
A perfect way to end the dinner is to order the chocolate fondue, warm chocolate over a fresh juicy strwberry, or a snicker candy…It was an evil temptation.
An insider tip: if you could make a reservation, try to make it at one of the booth which is located higher than other seats. This way, you will have a better view of the restaurant, the bar and the people there while enjoying the wonderful steak and service.
