i agree with Sumer that your baby will learn how to self feed himself sooner or later.
but in order to provide the opportunity for him to learn how to self feed, you should give him the chance. and i think the first thing you should do is to have him to eat in his high chair.
if possible, have meal with him. that way, he will not feel alone during meal time. and he could learn how to deal with different food while watching you at the dinner table.
kids love to imitate parents, cc learns how to deal with vege from her dad and deal with meat from me.
try to provide a good eating environment, meaning no force feeding. if the baby is not hungry, respect him and let him out. during meal time, show how much you enjoy the food and your child will know eating is fun and will look forward to it.
lastly, don\'t expect miracle to happen over night. kids could go truly messy when self feed. don\'t get angry, don\'t send the message you are not approving it. simply have a big piece of paper or plastic cover placed on the floor around the high chair and let your baby explore the food and fun by himself.
cc started to self feed some where around 6 or 7m, she took half a year to master the skill and now at 13m, then only she could eat well on her own, but still could get very messy.
hope this is helpful to you.
