Garden diary 2007 Summer (2007年夏天花园回顾)

Our plants and vegetable garden start to thrive in June. Cooler climate here made our garden start slow but steady.
We transplanted our vegetables from indoor to outdoor in  mid May. We planted directly outdoor for some vegetables, such as turnips, sweet corn, carrots, pumpkins, pole beans, sweet peas, scallop squash and zuchinis. And potatoes, too. I almost forgot.

I applied plastic linings for egg plants and peppers because they like more heat. This is our west vegetable garden.
Start left to right: pumpkins, egg plants, peppers, carrots, beets and turnips. Cucumbers just started to climb. I made the cotton line in the begining. My husband changed to stainless wire later the summer. They were very durable.

Now you can see clear the cucumbers next to the cotton lines. Sweet corns are next.

This is our vegetable garden in the north side of our property. From right to the left: Scallop squash, pumpkins, peppers, eggplants, green onions, carrots. More sweet corns are at very left.

This is another look of the North vegetable garden from different angel. Now, on the right is pototoes.

The potato plants are blooming.

This is the first time I grow potatoes in our garden, or in my life. Growing up in a big city in China, I have never seen a potato plant. I couldn't believe that the beautiful flowers are from potato plants.

Here are the sweet peas and ready to harvest in June. They are so sweet and tender. I made some delicious pasta dishes with these sweet peas. The harvest lasted till August this year. We still have couple bags in our freezer. We never get tired of it.

Here are the tomatoe plants in our raised bed. They just started to blooming.

These are turnips. They like cool weather. I planted them in May. Harvest started in late June. They are delicious by sautee with butter, roast in the oven or simply pan fry.

Summer is here. Fall is not far away. Stay tuned..............
